Thank you for visiting our site. The Silver Islet Yacht Club was formed in 2004 at Silver Islet, Ontario , a small former mining town neighboring the legendary Sleeping Giant located east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.  The club was formed through the vision of the late Mr. James Coslett.  He was a three time former Commodore of the Thunder Bay Yacht Club as well as the Thunder Bay Power Squadron.  He was well known all over Lake Superior as an accomplished boater and gentleman.  James was a summer resident at Silver Islet and as the boating community grew he felt that Silver Islet should have its own yacht club to reflect the interests and concerns of that community.  To follow through with this objective, a survey was conducted by the campers association of Silver Islet and an immense positive response was received from the community.  Therefore, in the summer of 2004, the Silver Islet Yacht club was launched.

The founding Board of Directors were James Coslett (Commodore), Ron Thompson (Vice Commodore), Kevin Kennedy (Rear Commodore), Caroline Matthews (Secretary), and Michael Kennedy (Treasurer).  At the inaugural meeting the membership expressed concern for the current state of the government dock and directed the Board to lobby the Department of "Fisheries and Oceans" to maintain it.  The Silver Islet Yacht Club has worked on that concern ever since.  More recently, the club has hosted an annual picnic and voyage into the beautiful cruising areas on the north shore of Lake Superior.  The club has also built and donated new picnic tables for the dock in the Silver Islet Harbour to provide comfort to all visitors who arrive there either by land or sea.
